 I don't know how this is going to help me lose weight, but I am willing to try anything. I am a 1/2 inch over 5ft and weight 160lbs(the most I have ever weighed:mad::(). I am going to also limit my carbs to the banana, and sometimes a whole grain, but plenty of nonstarch veggies. Will be difficult to not have rice, but I want this more than any old food! I hope to lose 50-60lbs by February, which is unlikely, so summer would be more realistic. The sad fact is I really gave up after my little sister did not ask me to be in her wedding. She gave me a lame reason, but I know my weight was the real reason. All the bridesmaids were thin, she chose an acquaintance over me!

That sucks about your own sister being shallow like that. You know, as for rice, I thought I would have to give that up too, but I eat it also. Read my blogs, I lost about 13 lbs since 10/29. And all other diets I tried failed too. Also another BIG key- Chew slowly, enjoy the taste of food (what they call "eating mindfully") and you should find that you actually need less food to be satisfied (do not eat until full or stuffed) and that also helps on weight loss.

Well, in the original Japanese Asa Banana Diet, they certainly eat rice, white rice! They do try to cut back on it for lunch and dinner, but they often have a rice ball as a mid-morning snack. If you like whole grains and veggies, I can't help but think it's even better, as long as you don't feel deprived and fall off the diet because of that.

I think I will just do what feels best and not stress if I eat more carbs than I think I should.

I can relate to everything you said. I too am short and weight 175 and also would like to lose lots by February. I just need a plan and hopefully we can share and become buddies. I need all the support I can get. I also will encourage support to others. Thanks

What is a rice ball? I keep seeing it and don't have a clue what it is.

An onigiri(rice ball), check out the snacks thread here http://morningbanana.com/community/showthread.php?t=75

I posted a picture of one I made, it had teriyaki fake "chicken" inside.

I understand how one can be skeptical, there are so many fad diets out there. I stay away from the ones that leave me starving.Key is to eat a lot of times during the day, then stopping well before down time.

hi everybody! I believe this diet could work, but I'm afraid that it won't for me because I've been on the zone perfect diet before and I think it messed up my metabolism when it comes to carbs or bad carbs like bananas. I'm afraid of eating this kind of carbs because they were forbidden in the zone diet. So... my question is, did it work for anyone who was on the zone, the south beach, atkins or the five factor diet?

I personally think that the whole "wreaked my metabolism" meme is an internet urban legend. You only hear this from flaky Web sites and dubious diet gurus.

Metabolism is simply your gas mileage, the efficiency with which you use food, the body's fuel. Your metabolislm can vary up or down a bit based on circumstances, but the idea that it can radically and permenently be changed based on the way you eat is bunkum. Does your car's gas mileage change from 15 miles per gallon to 50 all of a sudden? Or even gradually? No.

When you hear claims about messed up metabolisms, check for numbers. How much are they messed up? By how many calories or by what percentage? This is the language that scientists use. If you hear claims of metabolic changes over 5 percent, there's no support for that. And what is 5 percent in calories? It's 100 calories out of a 2,000 daily calorie budget. Even if your body went from needing 2,000 calories to only 1,900 calories, how messed up is that? You just need to eat 100 calories less. It sucks, but it doesn't doom you to being fat.
