On this site's blog there's a new post that talks about how the "resistant starch" in bananas might have a weight loss effect:

This is originally from an Examiner.com post. Maybe this is one of the things that makes the diet work for some people. And maybe it would be interesting to look into what other foods have this kind of fiber.

Well, from reading about this resistant starch, it seems that it specifically is in under-ripe fruit. So, the fact that a lot of us prefer to eat bananas in a more firm, partially ripened state maybe is part of it. Not sure if other fruits have it besides bananas as nothing really listed besides "unripe fruit". Found these site which are good for a general info and explains resistant starch a bit. There actually already is products with Resistant Starch to use as additives for food. Thanks again for the info, Topbanana.
Wonder if this does make the banana the only good option.

My suspicion is that the resistant starch is just one component of the diet, and a small one at that. If you just don't like bananas, that would be a bigger problem than the lack of resistant starch, so trying another fruit might be a good idea.
