I can follow everything about the rule except this one. I am trying to sleep before midnight but I just can't! I ended up sleeping at 2AM no matter how early I went to bed

May I know the reason why I SHOULD sleep before midnight???

I'll try to research this. For now what I remember is that the developer of the original diet put a lot of importance in "digestion," in making digestion easier on your body, in regularizing bowel movements, etc.

The dinner by 8, bed by 12 rule is partly to give you 4 hours between eating and sleeping, which will help you sleep better, according to diet promoters. And they claim that your circadian rhythms mean you have certain times of the day when your digestion is more active and is less active, and you should coordinate your eating with that. Something like that.

If I can dig up more detail, I'll post it.

Lack of sleep causes obesity. You should sleep at least 8 hrs. I think it's what they meant saying you must go to bed early. I have problems with going to bed before 12 too.
