What do you people eat for lunch on MBD?
My favourites are:
1 whole grain pita cut in half, stuffed with with perhaps 1/3 cup of hummous and a single-serving can of tomato & onion tuna (http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-clover-leaf-flaked-light-tomato-i90439). 1 banana and one large navel orange.
OR
1 bowl of wonton soup from nearby restaurant (with lots of wontons and pork), some whole grain triskets plain or with peanut butter, an orange or banana
OR
A microwave vegetarian rice side dish selected for low fat, calories and sodium, (there are lots) favoring long grain or wild rice, with a bowl of fruit like half a melon such as honeydew or cantaloupe and a cup of yogurt.
OR
2 Tim Horton's chicken wraps, no cheese, no sauce, a banana & an orange
Anyone else got ideas for cheap, easy, take-to-work lunches?

Sorry, but healthy and microwave do not belong in the same post together. Lol. Hard boiled eggs or vegetable soup in a thermos would make the most sense IMO.

Hmmm... Not necessarily. Frozen edamame beans from Costco are healthy, and all you do is microwave one pack and you're ready to go. But it's the prepackaged ones that are bad for you.

What's wrong with a microwave? Be specific.

Well I try to eat lunches that are under 400-500 calories. But I usually pack things like:
-sliced vegetables (usually cucumbers) w/ caesar dressing
-veggie chicken (im a vegetarian)
-japanese sweet potatoes
-sliced fruits
-granola bars
But I've just started packing my own lunches a few weeks ago. So, there isn't much I can say.

I don't see anything wrong with a microwave per se. I use them to steam vegetables quickly and to reheat leftovers. But I think you're better off not eating packaged food as a rule, and microwaves are associated with packaged foods. Eating packaged food is a slippery slope for a lot of people. No time spent for preparation. Going through the motions of chopping ingredients up and cooking them acts as a speed bump on eating, encourages consumption of more vegetables, which are bulky and filling, and so on.

I think as long as you make sure to eat something that is about 300 calories, you're safe. Just because something is microwaved DOESNT mean it isnt fattening. Actually, microwaving is the healthiest way to cook something. THink about it, you dont use fattening oils when you microwave an egg, do you? Nope.
