The Morning Banana Diet is not restrictive at all and by eating at least a banana in the morning I dont pig out at night. During the day, after eating a banana I dont wanna throw it away by eating junk food so I eat beans with mushrooms at least for lunch. Beans are very healthy and they keep me full more so than any other meal would.

What kind of beans do you eat? They're expensive in Japan. But I discovered that Can Do 100 Yen Shops have kidney beans (for 100 yen, of course) in stock sometimes. I use those for chili and to eat with omelettes. Otherwise they're about 250 yen in the markets.

The beans are very expensive like 350 yen a bag but its worth it cause it fills me up and I dont get the munchies later. Kidney beans are good. I usually buy a bag of them, let it soak overnight in garlic and herbs, and cook it the next day, adding mushrooms when the beans are tender. Its really good.:D

What kind of mushrooms you add to the beans? I'd like to read your recipe!

I cook beans 2-3 times a week. I cook lentils, with curry, and many others. Very filling and healthy. If you eat a small rice ball with your beans you don't need any protein at all!

I used to add the shitake (is that spelled right?) mushrooms, but now I am trying to get any mushroom that is cheap. lol

As for the type of beans I use, its usually any kind that catches my eyes as long as they are dried. I rarely use the beans in the can but maybe someday soon I will because the budget is getting tight if you know what I mean.

There are some kinds of beans that are reasonably cheap in Japan as dry beans, but they're not the sort that we normally eat in the United States. Things like kidney beans are a bit exotic in Japan priced that way. But as I said previously, the 100 yen stores are starting to stock large cans of imported kidney beans and chickpeas, which with a bag of frozen green beans and some vinaigrette make a quickie bean salad (fresh green beans are really expensive).

I use white baeans and chickpeas quite a lot in my cooking, at least four times per week. They are a good filler and I also use them as a thickener to home made soups.

Actually, the Morning Banana Diet allows you to eat anything after your morning banana breakfast and room temperature water. As long as you steer clear of ice creams, alcohol, and after-dinner desserts and keep away from food after 8 in the evening, you will not gain any extra pounds. Beans is a great idea--good fiber, but I don't like beans.

It's a great idea to eat beans, BananaGurl. I eat black beans and tomatoes, which isn't too much different, and it is just about the most healthy and filling meal you can eat. Plus here in the US it only costs me $1 for the entire meal.

Hi Everyone

Will be starting this 'diet' tomorrow and am feeling quite positive about it.. I love bananas!.. Strange how people always say they are fattening!

I thought I'd share my favourite soup with you all.. Its delicious, easy to make, very filling and not fattening in the least!

You will need:

1 can chopped tomatoes
Chopped garlic cloves (according to individual taste - I use about 4 cloves)
Chopped large onion
Chopped celery
1 can kidney beans
Tabasco or chilli sauce (according to individual taste - I like it hot)
Slice of back bacon, chopped (all fat removed)

Fry the garlic, onions & bacon in a little water. Add celery and tomatoes. Then kidney beans and tabasco. Bring to the boil and serve.

(Feel free to add any other veg you like to vary)

Enjoy! :)

:) Just started the diet yesterday and found your soup recipe. It sounds great and thank you for sharing. I need many ideas, especially for the weekend when you are at home and the temptations are many.
